PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) approval is the single most important thing to check when buying any phone in Pakistan. An unapproved phone will work normally for 60 days after a Pakistani SIM is inserted — then all mobile services are blocked. This guide explains everything you need to know.

What is PTA approval?

Pakistan’s Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) tracks every mobile device used in Pakistan by its IMEI number. Every phone must be registered — either by being officially imported with customs duty paid (PTA approved) or by the end user paying a registration fee.

How to check if a phone is PTA approved

Method 1 — USSD code (fastest)

On any Pakistani SIM, dial: *#06# to get the IMEI number. Then dial *8484# and enter the IMEI. You get an instant reply showing PTA registration status.

Method 2 — DIRBS website

Visit dirbs.pta.gov.pk → enter the IMEI number → check status instantly.

Method 3 — Before buying

How much does PTA registration cost?
